How to Respond to “Do You Have Any Questions for Me?”

“So, do you have any questions for me?”

If you’re like most candidates, this question makes you mildly anxious. “What does this person really want from me?” you think.

You feel pressure to come up with a brilliant question no one has ever asked before. Or, you suspect that they’re just trying to end the interview politely, so you say “Nope!”

Most hiring managers earnestly want to know if they’ve answered all your questions. But that doesn’t mean you should clam up.

It’s wise to come prepared with at least one question that’s unlikely to get covered in the rest of the interview.

One thing we love to hear candidates ask is: “Why do YOU like working here?” This question gives the hiring manager the opportunity to reflect in a personal way.

What Not to Ask

  • Off-work activities

  • Personal life or office gossip

  • Things you could answer yourself

  • Very complicated or multi-part questions

You definitely can make a bad impression if you ask a question the interview has already covered.

So pay attention, be sharp and contemplate your questions beforehand.
